Abstract

The system of the Arts was established in the middle of the 18th century, which is the one that in essence has survived to this day. Painting, sculpture, and architecture became Fine Arts to the detriment of those that had been historically. The three, based on drawing, theoretically enjoyed the same rank, but the truth is that as for painting and sculpture, the first had been emerged as the main one. The reason for the primacy of painting over sculpture is not aesthetic, but it has its
roots in the social recognition of the Arts, a fundamental concern of the Renaissance, at which time the controversy over
their priority appeared. This cannot be separated from the social ascent of artists, which meant that art theory praised painting to the detriment of sculpture, and what was done on a theoretical level ended up affecting the making of
sculptures, and therefore the approach we have to sizes.
