Abstract

The objective of our study is to delve into the origins of the only black saint venerated in Peru, and the differences in the formal representation of her with the images preserved in Brazil. Also, focus on the exceptional painting “The apotheosis
of Santa Efigenia”, an artistic work considered by the brush of the most important painter of the 18th century in Peru, Cristóbal Lozano, located in the church of the former farm La Quebrada, in the district of San Luis de Cañete, south of Lima.
Santa today considered the Patron Saint of Peruvian black art.
