CONSERVATION-RESTORATION TREATMENTS OF POLICROMED CLAY MONUMENTAL SCULPTURES

The monumental sculpture in baked clay exists monochrome or polychrome, inside and outside religious buildings, throughout the territory Portuguese and from the fourthteenth to the 21.st century. Execution techniques also vary. May
have thin or very thick walls, have or not interior sleepers and be seccioated or not. Due to their technical and physical characteristics, the respective Conservation-Restoration treatments require special care. This is the example of the altarpiece of the Mystic Wedding of St. Catherine of her monastery of Carnota, reliquaries of the sanctuary and sculptures of the horizontal plane of the altarpiece of St. Bernard of the Monastery of Santa Maria de Alcobaça and the sculpture of the Divine Saviour of his church of Santarém.
