Abstract

This article explains the work carried out on the polychrome wood sculpture (Saint Francis of Assisi), by Brumadinho in Minas Gerais, which was hit by a fire. The image was brought by the Archdiocese of Belo Horizonte in 2014 for treatment at the Federal University of Minas Gerais. It was noticed an extensive consolidated bibliography in relation to the preservation and risk management, in addition to the examples of conservation-restoration for the built heritage, but the parameters were little known for the treatment of movable property, mainly sculptures in polychrome wood, when affected by fire. Thus, we sought the theoretical framework about it and related case studies, based on field research, interviews and publications, for methodological purposes and to further clarify the treatment.
