Abstract

This article aims to point out and analyze characteristics and elements of the interior of the Church of Nossa Senhora da
Conceição dos Militares, located in the city of Recife, in the northeast of Brazil, that can be interpreted as symbolic of
power. The Baroque expression in the world and especially in the Northeast of Brazil, as well as the wide relations between
expression of power and the architecture of religious temples of different spiritual traditions encourages discussion. The
historical and social context of colonial Brazil and the importance of the brotherhood responsible for building the church
were also taken into account.
