Abstract

Result of research on the Portuguese sculptor, Francisco Vieira Servas, living in Minas Gerais from
1753 to 1811. The retables with supporting documentation are analyzed, the characteristics found
are raised and, based on one of them, an analysis of others attributed or attributable, but still without
documentation. The characteristic elements studied were: shapes of retables, thrones, columns and
columns with corbels, ornamental elements, tabernacles and their doors, altar tables and forms
used in the crowning, known in Minas as “arbaletas”.

Beatriz Coelho, Ceib

Professora titular aposentada e emérita da Escola de Belas Artes da UFMG; Criou e coordenou, por dez anos, de 1978 a 1988, o curso de especialização em Conservação e Restauração de Bens Culturais Móveis da EBA; Criou e coordenou o Centro de Conservação e Restauração de Bens Culturais Móveis (Cecor) da EBA, do qual foi coordenadora de 1980 a 1988 e dessa data em diante sua diretora até 1995, quando se aposentou. Criadora, com Myriam Andrde Ribeiro de Oliveira, em 1996 do Centro de Estudos da Imaginária Brasileira (Ceib).
