CAST METAL SCULPTURES IN COLOMBIAN ART (XVII-XVIII CENTURIES)
Keywords:
Baroque sculpture, Spanish imaginary, Art from Quito, Lead, Pedro de LugoAbstract
During the 17th and 18th centuries, cast metal images were very common in New Granada,
both those imported from Spain and Quito as well as those made locally. Among these images
there is a double casuistry: on the one hand, those that were made entirely of metal, such as the
Huerfanito of Pamplona, and on the other, those that only had certain metal parts, mainly the
fase and hands. In this study we will address all these issues paying special attention to the
pieces from Quito workshops, wich flooded the New Granada market during the 18th century.
