Abstract

With this article, we aim to contextualize the historical-cultural process associated with devotion to Our Lady of the Star, in the city of Magé (RJ). For the research, the methodology was exploratory, based on the survey of bibliographical references. Among the sources consulted were the writings of Frei Agostinho de Santa Maria (1723) and Monsignor Pizarro (1794). The devotional image analyzed is a legacy of popular colonial religiosity that maintains, in the 21st century, its original religious function, highlighting the historical, artistic and cultural value that has been added to it over time.
