THE LITTLE-KNOWN AND UNUSED IMAGES OF SAINTS SCULPTED IN GRANITE FOR SÉ DE SÃO PAULO

The Cathedral of São Paulo is a monument of great interest to scholars and those interested in architecture and art. In order to build it in the first half of the 20th century, traditional construction models were used, some of which were no longer used, such as the manual stone masonry used in a building of that size, which was used to produce the blocks for the cladding of its walls and the ribbed pillars for the spans. In order to achieve an ornamentation worthy of such a great work, an excellent sculptor-stonemason was hired. He was born and trained in Sweden and remained in São Paulo, becoming a Brazilian citizen. He was the sculptor August Ferdinand Frick, who, in addition to the sets of sculptures that make up the façade of the cathedral, is also the author of the rich ornamentation that is distributed throughout various parts of the temple. The four remaining pieces are analyzed in this work.
