Bahian sacred art. Although he is the author of important sculptures, he goes almost unnoticed
in the historiography of Bahian Art. He’s an artist who belongs to the period when
neoclassicism was imposed on Western culture, however, the practices of baroque/ rococo
styles still remained in Bahia, especially the copy of the great masters of these styles. Pedro
Ferreira was one of these artists and his main inspiration was Bartolomé Esteban Murillo (1618-
1682) who was one of the main artists of the Spanish Baroque. Pedro Ferreira was greatly
discredited for having as his main occupation, being a foreman.
