THE PRESENCE OF PROTEIN GLUES IN THE STRUCTURE OF SACRED WORKS

Abstract

This study is the result of research on the mechanical properties of protein glues, both traditional
ones, often mentioned in different recipes and old treatises, and alternatives and new
possibilities, depending on the Brazilian reality. Therefore, these techniques were rescued from                                                         Segurado and Fleury. The objective was to evaluate the mechanical resistance properties of the
glues, through shear tests, and to create a Bank of Glues of animal origin, allowing the
knowledge of the different materials used over time. The methodology consisted of measuring
the mechanical strength of animal glues as a function of their raw material. The materials
collected from these species were evaluated through destructive tests. The laboratory results of
the research will be shared through art and education activities (workshops, conferences and
scientific events), in addition to the publication of articles in scientific journals.
